Watlow Watbus System: PM PLUS, EZ-ZONE RM & ASPYRE AT
WHAT WATBUS IS
Watbus is Watlow’s proprietary RS-485 token-passing network used across the EZ-ZONE and related product families. High-speed inter-module bus connects modern EZ-ZONE RM modules and ASPYRE AT through CY, CX, and CZ terminals. Low-speed standard bus supports panel-mount PM / PM PLUS, RUI, and ST.
PM PLUS standard-bus terminals are CE, CD, and CF. They can link to ASPYRE AT when configured for Backplane Bus. Watbus is the Watlow ecosystem bus—not a plant fieldbus replacement. Plant Ethernet protocols typically enter through an RMA PLUS gateway.
SYSTEM BUILDING BLOCKS
PM PLUS runs the temperature loop and sends heat power demand. EZ-ZONE RM provides DIN-rail multi-loop control, limit, and modular I/O. RMA PLUS routes Watbus over Ethernet and USB, with Modbus TCP and optional EtherNet/IP and data logging. ASPYRE AT closes the loop on voltage, current, or power and returns heater diagnostics.
HOW THEY WORK TOGETHER
Sensor → PM PLUS or EZ-ZONE RM → inter-module bus → ASPYRE AT → heater. Add RMA PLUS for Ethernet/USB access and plant PLC or SCADA. Bus linking reduces discrete wiring and supports scalable multi-zone panels.
Typical architectures include compact panel PID plus SCR power, multi-zone DIN-rail control plus multiple ASPYRE AT units, and hybrid PM PLUS / RM systems. Entherm will review topology before you cut wire.

• Multi-zone process heating panels: ovens, dryers, heated platens, and packaging seal bars.
• Systems where heater health and load diagnostics matter.
• Panels being converted from discrete SSR and analog demand wiring to a Watlow ecosystem bus.
• OEM machines needing a clean path from door-mounted PID to DIN-rail power.
• Facilities standardizing on Modbus TCP or EtherNet/IP at the PLC while keeping Watlow devices on Watbus inside the panel.
